Letter From the Secretary-General
Dear distinguished delegates, chairs, advisors, and members of the public,
It is with great honour and privilege that I officially announce and welcome you to the 13th edition of Nexus International School Model United Nations Conference 2026, NISMUNC’26. My name is Megan Loh Shu Tian, a Year 13 IBDP student, and I am proud to be serving as this year’s Secretary-General.
Today’s world is one filled with ambiguity. In a world filled with so much beauty, such as the diverse cultures and heritage protected by UNESCO, we also find ourselves challenged with the abundance of crises occurring globally. News after news of new humanitarian crises, conflicts, and wars continue to arise, causing oversaturation in news outlets and overshadowing each other, leading to neglect and often forgotten about. More and more casualties continue to accumulate around the world, such as, but are not limited to, in the: Gaza war, Russo-Ukrainian war, Sudanese Civil war. The Talibans are still reigning in Afghanistan; women’s rights continue to be erased and stripped away; rape and human traffiking continue to increase at alarming rates, hence I question the society and fundamentals we are shaping.
Throughout the three days of NISMUNC’26, delegates will immerse themselves in pressing global issues, from humanitarian crises to technological governance and environmental sustainability. In doing so, you will not only represent nations but also embody the principles of diplomacy, negotiation, and respect that resembles the United Nations. Furthermore, I am a firm believer of increasing accessibility to education and activities, in alignment with the UNSDG 4. As a result, one of my main goals was to make NISMUNC’26 delegate fees more affordable and accessible to all students.
To the delegates: may you approach this conference with integrity, open-mindedness, and determination. To the chairs, secretariat, and advisors: we thank you for your dedication to ensure the success of this endeavour and uphold the values which NISMUNC stands upon. Together, let us reaffirm our commitment to challenge what is wrong and prioritise cooperation before conflict.
On behalf of the Secretariat Team, I once again welcome you to NISMUNC’26. May these three days inspire you to lead with empathy, think critically, and act decisively - not only within the committee rooms, but far beyond them.
Yours sincerely,

Megan Loh Shu Tian
